EUROPACK-EUROMANUT, in partnership with EMBALLAGES MAGAZINE, conducted in April 2007 an exclusive survey on customer expectations with regard to packaging machines and equipment.

This opening conference is the opportunity to present the results of this survey:

"Packaging Machines: prices, service and reliability"

The price! But not just that! In view of the high level demands made by their buyers, suppliers of packaging machines must make a commitment on the reliability of their equipment. A heavy trend could result in a new economic model.

"E-commerce, an opportunity for industrial handling?"

According to the FEVAD (Fédération des entreprises de vente à distance), for the first quarter of 2007 the turnover for all the e-commerce sites increased by 40% in comparison with the same quarter in 2006.

On the whole the turnover of sales made on internet by all the commercial sites increased by 40% during the first quarter, reaching 4 billion Euros.

In three months, the e-commerce sites achieved a turnover higher than the one achieved during the whole year in 2003 (3.7 billion Euros). This growth is comparable to that observed in 2006 (+37%) and confirms the present dynamism of e-commerce in France. It is estimated that e-commerce should reach 16.8 billion in 2007, in line with what the the Fevad estimated and communicated last September.

These statistical data illustrate the reality of the French economy which is increasingly based on services linked with consumption.

And since products must be stored and delivered, e-commerce involves handling manufacturers on a first level.

All the more so as France, at the crossroads of the European logistic flows, has undisputed assets to have an impact at the continental level.

Can manufacturers of automated storage equipment, of isolated loads, but also manufacturers of fork-lift trucks count on this new lever to promote their growth? Indeed, will e-commerce take over from industry?

Presented by Xavier MESME, specialized journalist, JOURNAL DE LA LOGISTIQUE.

"Reducing operating costs and improving environmental impacts at the different stages of the supply chain through packaging"

Workgroups are considering good practice guidelines for packaging. Secondary packaging is being assessed according to whether it involves new or existing products. Tertiary packaging is shared by several brands for daily delivery to mass retailers. The rental of reusable bins is attractive to industries such as the automotive industry. "Do it quickly and well": packaging is moving forward along the entire supply chain and an occasional cost should be considered in a more global vision.
